2025 was a huge year for Damson Idris, who, coming into the year, was best known for his roles in projects such as Snowfall and Outside the Wire. Idris teamed up with Brad Pitt for one of the biggest movies of 2025, F1, which grossed over $600 million at the global box office. Following the film’s successful box office run, it has gone on to become the #1 movie on Apple TV all year, even holding its ground against newer releases. Fans have also proclaimed that Idris would be a great fit to take over the mantle of T’Challa from the late Chadwick Boseman, but there have been no updates or reports to indicate that Marvel is going to bring him on for a role in a future Black Panther or Avengers movie.

Damson Idris has had a quiet year so far in 2026, and while he doesn’t have any huge projects lined up for this year, he does have another big movie set to headline 2027 as one of the first feature films of the year. Idris will star opposite Thusa Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Tosin Cole, and more in Children of Blood and Bone, the fantasy adaptation coming to theaters on January 15. Stenberg is best known for her dual roles as Mae and Osha in The Acolyte. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Tomi Adeyemi, who is credited as an executive producer on the film, but she has distanced herself from the adaptation recently, even going as far as to post a video on her personal Instagram of her blocking leading star Amandla Stenberg. Before Children of Blood and Bone launches early next year, Paramount has released the first official images from the film, which was written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.

What Is ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ About?

The official synopsis for Children of Blood and Bone reads as follows: “In the epic fantasy world of Orïsha, a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule. ​​​​​” Additional cast members for the film include Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran, Regina King as Queen Nehanda, Idris Elba and Viola Davis. Saniyya Sidney, Diaana Babnicova, Bukky Bakray, Ayra Starr, Shamz Garuba, Kola Bodunde, Pamilerin Afolake Ayodeji, Tèmítópé Fágbénlé also star.
