To many fans around the world, David Tennant will always be known for his role as Doctor Who in the long-running sci-fi series. He played the Doctor for more than 15 years in the hit show, and while he has seemingly left Doctor Who behind, he still has plenty of projects releasing regularly to keep his fan base satisfied. Tennant recently returned to Disney Plus to reprise his role as Tony Baddingham in the second season of Rivals, and it’s already been confirmed that the show has been picked up for Season 3. No release date yet, but all signs point to Rivals Season 2 being released next year or in 2028. Tennant is also famous for playing the legendary villain Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, the hit Marvel Netflix show starring Krysten Ritter.
Tennant has also been tapped to star in the third season of the BAFTA-winning drama series, Time, which was written by award-winning scribe Jimmy McGovern and Samuel Bailey. The anthology series explores life inside the British prison system, and Season 3 is set in a Young Offenders Institution, showing the impact of incarcerated teenagers and the effect it has on those who look after them. Siobhan Finneran will reprise her role as Marie-Louise in the series, but this will be Tennant’s first season of the show — previous stars such as Sean Bean and Stephen Graham played key roles in Time. BritBox even released the first images from Time Season 3, which also stars Daniel Ryan as Freddie Jennings, a Custodial Manager at the YOI, Jo Joyner as Nicola, Vinette Robinson as Erica, Louis McCartney as James, Ollie McNulty as Peter and Chukwubuikem Molokwu as Christopher.
What Else Do We Know About ‘Time’ Season 3?
BritBox has released a lengthy description for Time Season 3, which reads as follows:
“Prison Chaplain Marie-Louise comes to the YOI having lost her faith. When tragedy strikes in the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with veteran officer Bailey, a man in the midst of his own crisis. Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to this major incident – but will he come clean before the guilt gets too much? Meanwhile, two teenage young offenders, Peter and James, struggle through the terrifying first weeks and months of their incarceration. Can James ever face his broken parents after an unforgivable act of violence and will Peter tell the truth about the death of an innocent man, or does family loyalty mean more? An unlikely friendship between them looks to shift the trajectory of their futures, but in an increasingly unstable environment, is change ever possible?”
While BritBox did not set an official release date for Time Season 3 along with the preview of the first images, it’s expected that this announcement is coming soon, possibly even with the debut of the first trailer. It has been confirmed that Time Season 3 will be released before the end of 2026.
