There has been no shortage of content this year for Avatar: The Last Airbender fans to enjoy, be it the live-action series over on Netflix or the new animated sequel film coming to Paramount+ this weekend. Although Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series lost over 50% of its viewership during the transition from Season 1 to 2, the third and final season of the series has already been shot, so there’s little to no reason to believe that it would be canceled. Paramount’s animated sequel film hasn’t been without its controversies either, though — after its theatrical release was pulled, the entire film leaked online earlier this year, forcing the studio to push the release date forward from October to July. There are several other Avatar projects in various stages of development, but the most intriguing one on the slate got an exciting update this afternoon.

This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount officially revealed the first trailer for the next Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel series, Avatar: Seven Havens. Premiering in less than two months on October 9, Avatar: Seven Havens was written and created for TV by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, the creators of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series of the mid-2000s. The 26-episode, 2D animated series follows a young Earthbender who discovers that she’s the next Avatar after Korra in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. What makes Avatar: Seven Havens different from Avatar shows of the past is that it’s set in a world where humanity views the Avatar as a destroyer, not a savior — an interesting juxtaposition after both Aang and Korra were widely praised as a savior and ender of wars. The first official teaser trailer for the show, which even features an appearance from an older version of Korra, can be found below, and the official synopsis reads as follows:

“In this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

The Avatar Franchise Is Making History in 2026

This is a historic year for Avatar: The Last Airbender fans, who have not one, or two, but three projects in a single year. There were whispers for a while that Avatar fans were getting a big-budget, AAA video game centered around a new Avatar learning to master all four elements, but the project has seemingly been put on ice. The fate of Avatar: Seven Havens has not been decided beyond Season 1, but the show was not announced as a limited series, meaning there is potential to return if the demand is there. With DiMartino and Konietzo at the helm, it would be more surprising if the show is a bomb than if it’s a smash hit.
