‘Ghost Rider’: Ryan Gosling Officially MCU in Long Rumored Role; Shawn Levy to Direct!!

In a stunning moment, we were just given one of the most fascinating and exciting casting choices in recent history. During Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige officially confirmed that Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Hary) will play Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, marking one of the biggest casting announcements of the studio’s presentation.

Gosling’s name has been linked with Marvel for years, and the actor has done a lot of public courting for the role, talking about how much he loves the character. Ever since then, fans have been desperate to see it happen for real and here we are at last. The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who worked with Gosling on Star Wars: Starfighter and was behind the record breaking Deadpool and Wolverine. It will open in 2028.

During Marvel’s Hall H presentation, Feige also praised the upcoming Lucasfilm adventure, revealing he’d already seen the film.

“I don’t want to brag, but I’ve been lucky enough to see Star Wars: Starfighter. And as a Star Wars nerd—and a bigger Star Wars nerd than a Marvel nerd. Is that true? That’s not true. No, it’s not—it’s awesome.”

Feige went on to praise Gosling’s performance, saying the actor brings “all the Star Wars feels” while adding “a fresh new thing to it.”

Who Is Ryan Gosling Playing in ‘Ghost Rider’?

Of course, Marvel fans will know that Gosling’s Ghost Rider is not the first on-screen live-action adaptation of this fan-favorite character. Gosling’s version of this story is following that of Nicolas Cage’s performance in both the 2007 movie Ghost Rider and its 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. There is some question as to whether Gosling will actually be playing the same exact character, though.

In the comics, there are multiple Ghost Riders, one of whom is Johnny Blaze, and that’s who Cage played in his movies. Now, it’s possible Gosling is playing the same character but we’d argue it’s probably more likely that he will instead be playing Danny Ketch. Thus far, it seems, Marvel isn’t sharing that information with audiences.

Ghost Rider will open in 2028.
