‘Art Detectives’ Renewed For Season 2!!!

Acorn TV has played a massive role in introducing U.S. and Canadian audiences to the best of British television, and particularly mysteries. Just over halfway through the year, the platform has brought back several of its most acclaimed titles, including Season 2 of Inspector Ellis earlier this month, Season 5 of Harry Wild, and Season 19 of the long-running Murdoch Mysteries. In terms of new series, the cozy Brooke Shields-led You’re Killing Me has been a standout as well, swiftly earning a renewal for Season 2 for its amateur sleuth and podcaster duo. For over a year now, though, one of the streamer’s most acclaimed freshman original hits has been waiting in limbo for another round of art-themed mysteries.

First debuting on Acorn TV last June, Art Detectives introduced viewers to DI Mick Palmer, an art aficionado played by Stephen Moyer with as much of an eye for crime as antiques. As part of the Heritage Crime Unit with the straight-talking DC Shazia Malik (Nina Singh), he delves into the high-profile art world to solve murders and thefts connected to the lavish, obsessive, and greedy individuals involved within it and the shadowy underbelly beneath it. Season 1 saw them handling cases involving a fake Vermeer, Old Master paintings, items from the Titanic, and more, helping the series stand out from its fellow cozy mystery shows with an extravagant edge. After so much waiting and wondering after its first run ended with a strong 89% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, there’s finally good news to report.

Black Dog Television and Dynamic Television announced today that Palmer and Malik will indeed be back on the art scene, as Acorn TV has officially renewed Art Detectives for Season 2. Moreover, the wait for more episodes won’t be long at all. Production is slated to begin this month in Belfast and Northern Ireland, with a two-part special kicking off the detectives’ return in December. A full six-episode season will then be released sometime in 2027. In an official statement, Moyer celebrated the news by promising even more exciting mysteries to solve ahead and expressing his anticipation to reunite with the Art Detectives team.

Who Is Helping to Piece Together ‘Art Detectives’ Season 2?

Back at the helm for Season 2 of the Acorn TV original are creators Dan Gaster, Will Ing, and Paul Powell, alongside a pair of returning experienced British television directors in Death in Paradise‘s Jennie Paddon and Faithless‘ Declan Recks. The Wise Guy helmer Sam O’Mahony is also jumping behind the camera this time around. Outside of Moyer and Singh, little is known about who will be joining them in the art world this time around, save for Larry Lamb, who is reprising his role as Mick’s art-forging father Ron, even though he’s now locked away in an open prison following the Season 1 finale. Whatever new art pieces and mysteries will be explored have yet to be revealed, but this team has already proven themselves quite capable of painting tales of suspense and intrigue worth watching. Collider‘s Maggie Lovitt gave Season 1 a 9/10 in her review, hailing Art Detectives as “one of the best British mysteries on Acorn TV in recent years.”
