‘Warhammer 40,000’: Prime Video Sets Animated Series Spin-Off with Henry Cavill Producing!!

Henry Cavill‘s Warhammer 40,000 universe is already getting bigger and that’s before it’s even started. That’s the sign of a franchise that’s got some very big plans. We’re all sitting here waiting for Cavill‘s live action take on one of gaming’s biggest and boldest franchises but meanwhile, in those boardrooms and writing sanctuaries, Amazon MGM Studios has been busy putting together another major project set in the grim darkness of the far future, and the Superman star is involved in this one too.

According to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Warhammer 40,000 animated event series, with Cavill attached as an executive producer alongside his ongoing role as star and executive producer of the live-action adaptation. The new series is being produced in partnership with Blur Studios and Games Workshop.

The series is something of a spin-off from Prime Video’s adult animated anthology Secret Level, which featured a well-received Warhammer 40,000 episode when the series premiered in late 2024. Dave Wilson, who directed that episode, is co-creating and directing the new series alongside John Orloff (Masters of the Air). Deadline states that the series will reportedly focus on The Deathwatch, an elite chapter of Space Marines tasked with hunting the Imperium’s deadliest alien threats.

Why Is Henry Cavill Making a Warhammer Series?

When Amazon first announced the partnership with Games Workshop, Cavill made it clear this wasn’t just another acting job. “For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life.”

Speaking more recently about the adaptation, Cavill explained that the complexity of Warhammer 40,000 is exactly what attracted him to the project. “It’s different from what I’ve done before, in the sense I haven’t had my hand on the tiller of things before. It’s wonderful doing that.”

He continued: “It is a tricky IP, and a very complex IP, and that’s what I love about it. The challenges that come with putting this on the page in a way that is doing justice to that complexity, that trickiness, and that nuance, is a challenge I’m enjoying enormously.”

The animated series will be executive produced by Cavill, Tim Miller, Natalie Viscuso, Roy Lee and Andy Smillie, with Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios and Games Workshop producing. Neither the animated series nor Cavill’s live-action Warhammer 40,000 adaptation currently has a release date.
