‘Harry Potter’: HBO Series Officially Changes Footage After Backlash!!

It’s clear HBO is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure fans are nothing but enchanted when it comes to the latest version of the Wizarding World put on screen. Ever since the first footage from its ambitious Harry Potter television reboot debuted earlier this year, fans have been dissecting every frame, praising some creative choices while questioning others, but one choice above all else has been heavily scrutinized and it’s the one change the studio is officially making a big change to.

HBO has officially updated footage from its upcoming Harry Potter series, introducing a noticeably brighter and warmer colour grade following criticism of the original teaser trailer released in March. The revised footage appeared in HBO’s recent “The Best Is Yet to Come” promotional reel, which aired ahead of Episode 7 of House of the Dragon Season 3.

Across multiple shots, Hogwarts now appears noticeably brighter than it did in the original teaser, and scenes of Harry, Ron and Hermione rampaging around the corridors of Hogwarts have been notably lifted from the dark blue-grey palette that dominated the first trailer, allowing far more detail to shine through.

The Great Hall sequence has also been regraded, with warmer lighting illuminating the chandeliers and castle interior, while shots featuring characters like Snape, Dumbledore and McGonagall all feature richer contrast and more natural lighting. Harry’s Quidditch uniform is popping a lot more too, with the enhanced grading making the maroon and gold Gryffindor colors stand out a lot more against the wintry backdrop.

When the teaser first premiered in March, the quality and care of what was on screen enchanted viewers, but many also argued that the series had lost the warmth and visual charm associated with Chris Columbus’ 2001 film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Social media quickly filled with comparisons between the two versions, with many describing HBO’s footage as “washed out” or “drained of color”, but the promo would certainly suggest that HBO has taken note of the complaints and adjusted the overall color grade with a warmer hue.
