‘The Odyssey’ Officially Crosses the One Billion Mark at the BO!!

It’s safe to say that, coming into the year, The Odyssey was one of the most anticipated movies of 2026. Christopher Nolan lit the world on fire — albeit not at the same level as an atomic bomb — with his work on Oppenheimer in 2023, and the film won seven Oscars, including two to Nolan for his work directing and producing the feature, with performance awards going to Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. Nolan spent the better part of 2025 shooting The Odyssey, and if there wasn’t enough natural hype for the movie after his success with Oppenheimer, he took things to a new level by announcing that The Odyssey would be the first film in history to be shot entirely with IMAX film cameras. The demand for IMAX showings is unlike any movie ever made, with showings still sold out weeks later.

There were some who predicted that The Odyssey would fail at the box office in the weeks leading up to release, but the doubters continue to be proven hilariously wrong as The Odyssey puts together one of Nolan’s most impressive box office runs. This week, the film officially crossed the $1 billion milestone at the worldwide box office, with $429 million coming from domestic earnings and $578 million coming from international territories. The Odyssey becomes Christopher Nolan’s first movie since The Dark Knight Rises to reach $1 billion at the box office — Oppenheimer fell just short at around $975 million. The Odyssey needs another $86 million to pass the cumulative total of The Dark Knight Rises, which it will likely reach sometime in the next two weeks.

Who Stars in ‘The Odyssey’?

Matt Damon stars in the lead role of Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s new historical epic, and starring alongside him as his wife Penelope is Anne Hathaway. Tom Holland, who is having a historic month at the box office thanks to his role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, also has a key role in The Odyssey as Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope. Additional cast members for The Odyssey include Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, Charlize Theron as Calypso, Corey Hawkins as Polybus, Elliot Page as Sinon, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Mia Goth as Melantho, Ryan Hurst as Mentor, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, and more.
