The cast of Game of Thrones remains in ever-high demand across Hollywood ever since the fantasy series ended in 2019. That’s especially true at Prime Video, where Sophie Turner is preparing her turn as legendary video game adventurer Lara Croft in the live-action Tomb Raider series, and Emilia Clarke will soon return to television for a “captivating” new starring role in the platform’s adaptation of the Image Comics series Criminal. Easily one of the streamer’s most ambitious efforts, Citadel, also had a former resident of Westeros front and center — Richard Madden. The mothership series of the Russo Brothers‘ massive interconnected world of spies finally debuted its second season earlier this year, though it ultimately hasn’t turned into the juggernaut globe-trotting franchise once hoped.
While Citadel is in limbo, the Golden Globe winner who brought Robb Stark to life has other things lined up. Madden is among the stars due to reunite with Bodyguard creator Jed Mercurio in Netflix‘s upcoming high-stakes thriller Trinity, where he’ll play a Secretary of Defense wrapped up in a conspiracy thanks to his newfound connection to an enemy naval commander, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw. No release date has been set yet for the eight-episode series, and little else is known outside of the cast, which also features Marcia Gay Harden, Bruce Greenwood, JD Pardo, and more alongside the Thrones alum. Now, he also has a reunion with Prime Video lined up that will again put him in a high-stakes, action-packed situation.
Variety has confirmed that Madden will star in the new thriller series Trauma, which will be shared between Prime Video and Paramount+. The former will be the home of the series in the U.K. and Ireland, while the latter will cover all other territories, marking a rare collaboration between platforms through a co-production model brokered by Lionsgate Television and 42 Management & Production. Madden is set to play Royal Marines medic turned ER doctor Jim Marchant, who must lean back on his training when terrorists storm a busy London hospital to take the Prime Minister hostage during surgery. Viewers will follow Marchant through a tense floor-by-floor sweep that slowly tips the balance of power in his favor, with danger around every corner and strategy necessary for survival.
Who Are the Minds Behind ‘Trauma’?
Trauma hails from Geoff Bussetil in his first attempt at creating a series for television. He’s built up a wealth of experience as a writer, co-writing the script for Netflix’s 2024 docudrama Scoop and working on Slow Horses, Skins, and more. Joining him behind the camera is Tehran director Daniel Syrkin, who also executive produces with Madden and 42‘s Ben Pugh and Ben Cavey. Paramount+‘s head of originals, Jane Wiseman, gave the duo of Bussetil and Madden a major vote of confidence in an official statement, writing:
“Trauma is exactly the kind of bold, global and propulsive storytelling we want Paramount+ audiences to experience. Geoff Bussetil has crafted a nail-biting thriller that puts our audience inside one impossible night with a hero played by the incredibly talented Richard Madden.
