With another $145 million earned domestically — a total only one other movie managed to surpass in its opening weekend this year — Brand New Day has convinced even the most skeptical of critics that it might just have the legs to become the highest-grossing movie of all time. This second weekend haul is the third-biggest of all time, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame.

Part of this enormous success for Brand New Day is down to its widespread appeal, with countries across the world seeing massive audiences filling up their theaters. Thanks to this second weekend, the latest Spidey flick has now officially become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India, overtaking Avatar: The Way of Water in the process. This comes just one week after it earned the biggest opening for a non-Indian film in the country’s box office history. “The response to Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been truly outstanding and reflects the enduring appeal of global event cinema on the big screen,” Gautam Dutta, CEO, revenue and operations, PVR Inox Limited, said about this incredible opening.

What’s Next for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man?

With many more records likely to fall, Marvel Studios Producer and President Kevin Feige is sure to be thinking about what’s next for this beloved franchise. But will Holland return to the franchise? Recently, the actor admitted that a plan for his successor has been in place since Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted in 2021, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ready to move on. Whether more Friendly Neighborhood Holland is on the way is unknown, but we can rest assured it won’t be for some time yet, with Feige saying, “he’s going to rest after that global tour. He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve.”
