Ethan Hawke may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of an A-list star, but his filmography holds up as well as any of his peers, especially those from his generation.Hawke is a five-time Oscar nominee for his performances in Training Day, Before Sunset, Before Midnight, Boyhood, and Blue Moon, and although the Academy Award has evaded him to this point in his career, earning five nominations for his performances and writing is an impressive enough accolade by itself. Hawke has settled into some different roles in the last few years of his career, including playing the Grabber in the Black Phone horror movies under director Scott Derrickson. He’s also secured a role in one of the most underrated neo-Western TV shows of the last few years, The Lowdown, which streams on Hulu.
FX unleashed the first season of The Lowdown near the end of 2025, and the show earned a nearly flawless 98% rating from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It’s often compared to Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King, as both are set in Tulsa, Oklahoma and dive into the world of organized crime, and while there are plenty of differences to pick apart, most fans have found themselves enjoying the nuances of both shows. After renewing The Lowdown for Season 2 earlier this year, FX officially announced that the second season of the crime drama show will begin streaming on Wednesday, October 14. New episodes will be released weekly every Wednesday. The first images of new Season 2 stars Tommy Lee Jones and Betty Gilpin have also been released to celebrate the exciting Season 2 announcement.
Ethan Hawke Has a New Movie With Russell Crowe Coming Soon
Next month, Ethan Hawke will team up with Russell Crowe for a new crime thriller, The Weight, which is launching in theaters on September 18. The film currently holds a 94% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes following its premiere at Sundance, making it one of the highest-rated films of Crowe and Hawke’s career. Directed by Padraic McKinely and co-starring Austin Amelio, The Weight follows a battle-scarred war veteran who is desperate to save what’s left of his family during the height of the Great Depression. His life changes when he’s hired to help smuggle a fortune in gold across 100 miles of wilderness.
