‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ Renewed for Season 2!!

2026 has been a huge year for HBO, especially in the fantasy department, where the streamer has expanded the Game of Thrones universe with multiple spin-offs. The first Game of Thrones-adjacent show to win over fantasy fans around the world was A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which also happens to be a personal favorite of George R.R. Martin. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 has already wrapped filming, and it’s been confirmed that it will premiere in the first half of 2027. House of the Dragon won’t return for its fourth and final season next year, but after the fiery Season 2 finale last week, it’s safe to say that hopes are high the show still makes its planned 2028 release window. HBO has also released new seasons of The Pitt, Industry, and other prestige shows this year.

HBO doesn’t venture into the sci-fi genre often, at least not as regularly as other streamers like Apple TV and Netflix, but it’s usually a must-watch spectacle when it does. The latest sci-fi gamble from HBO Max is Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, which is a wacky spin-off from The Big Bang Theory following Stuart Bloom (played by Kevin Sussman) as he tries and fails to save the universe, staying true to his unlucky nature. HBO isn’t even halfway through the first season of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, and the streamer just made a big decision regarding the future of the series. News broke this afternoon that Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has officially been renewed for Season 2, meaning Stuart and the gang will return for more multiversal adventures.

What Else Is Streaming on HBO Max?

The most popular show on HBO Max at the time of writing is the aforementioned third season of House of the Dragon, which just wrapped up after airing its eighth episode. It’s the only show to outlast Stuart Fails to Save the Universe in the top spot, but now that the third season is over, The Big Bang Theory spin-off will likely move into the #1 position soon. Sitting comfortably as the most-watched movie on HBO Max right now is Mortal Kombat II, which grossed over $120 million at the box office against an $80 million budget.
