Tom Selleck Set for Guest Star Role in New Apple TV Comedy Led By Elizabeth Banks!!

Blue Bloods fans miss seeing Tom Selleck as a cop, and who can blame them, in truth? After fourteen years and countless family dinners, their favorite procedural drama was canceled with little to no hope of ever returning, and that can be quite disheartening. Hence, in their search for Selleck-like goodness, fans are turning elsewhere for their dose of the veteran TV star. Thankfully, a taste of Selleck is not in short supply, as the actor has brought to life a handful of law-enforcement figures over the decades. While roles like Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods and Jesse Stone in the Jesse Stone film series speedily come to mind, others, like the 1984 sci-fi action thriller Runaway, written and directed by bestselling author Michael Crichton, require a surprising resurgence on PVOD to emerge from the pop-culture attic.

Selleck, though, has never been an actor content to be defined by a single badge. From Magnum, P.I. to Quigley Down Under, his career has taken him from hard-boiled detectives to fathers, baseball players, cowboys, and everything in between, often finding ways to seamlessly make even familiar characters feel distinctly his own, comfortably switching between genres. Now, the veteran actor appears ready to add another intriguing entry to that list of credits.

While Apple TV is known as being the home of prestige sci-fi series. The streaming service is also comfortable dipping its feet into other genres, as evidenced by shows like the spy thriller Slow Horses, Harrison Ford‘s heartfelt comedy, Shrinking, and the upbeat comedic sports drama, Ted Lasso. The streaming service is poised to head down the comedic route once more with an as-yet-untitled series led by Elizabeth Banks. Per Deadline, joining Banks as part of the guest-starring cast for the upcoming series is Selleck, whose role and its details have been kept under wraps. Produced for Apple TV by 20th Television, the upcoming series is co-created by Liz Heldens and Matt Ward. Besides the aforementioned Banks, the ensemble cast includes Ted Danson, Rob Delaney, Katey Sagal, Jared Goldstein, and Spencer Moss.

What is the New Apple TV Series About?

Heldens and Ward will serve as showrunners and executive produce the new series, which follows Heidi (played by Banks), who is fresh off a messy divorce and sets out to secure a lively second act for herself and her kids. But when she stumbles into coordinating her father’s (Danson) retirement community sexcapades, Heidi is forced into an unlikely alliance with his girlfriend’s perpetually single son. Jonathan Krisel will direct the pilot with Quinn Haberman executive producing alongside Heldens, Jason Winer, Jon Radler, Banks, Max Handelman, and Krissy Wall. Hamish Linklater, Michelle Buteau, and the MCU’s Simu Liu have recurring roles in the series.
