Attention: please put your tray tables in the upright position, because Manifest is coming in for a landing again. The show survived disaster time and again, and now it’s experienced yet another revival. The original creators of the series are returning for an all-new Netflix show that promises to explore the mysteries of the original series…and create new ones.

Manifest premiered on NBC in 2018 with an intriguing premise. An airliner flying from Jamaica to New York City lands after a period of turbulence; once they land, the passengers and crew learn that more than five years have passed since they took off, and everyone on board has been long been presumed dead. As they deal with the fallout of their disrupted lives, and loved ones who’ve moved on, the characters attempt to solve the mystery of their disappearance. The series built a cult following, but was cancelled by NBC after three seasons. However, after it was added to Netflix, it rocketed up the streaming charts; the streamer subsequently greenlit a fourth and final season to wrap up the show’s plotlines.

Now, fans can return to the world of the series in Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery. It’s an all-new series taking place in the universe of Manifest; it centers around the survivors of a plane crash in Denver who emerge from the wreckage with no memory of their past lives. A social worker and a Homeland Security agent team up to solve the mystery, only to discover that the fate of humanity hangs in the balance. It’s no coincidence that the announcement comes on August 28: Manifest revolves around the mysterious fate of Montego Air Flight 828. Jeff Rake, who created the original series, is back on board; he’ll executive produce, co-create, and co-showrun the series with Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, two other veterans of the show. Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke of Compari Entertainment, Len Goldstein of Tall Baby Productions, and Jacqueline Levine will also executive produce.

Will the Cast of ‘Manifest’ Return for ‘Arrivals’?

So far, no casting details have been revealed for Arrivals. However, to mark the occasion, Netflix spoke to several of the show’s original cast members about the Manifest phenomenon and its devoted fan base. Melissa Roxborough, who played NYPD detective Mick Stone, was grateful the show got to have its emotional finale: “It felt like a big happy family having their goodbyes.” Josh Dallas, who starred as Mick’s math professor brother Ben, got a little too emotional as the finale neared: “Even more, for me, was the table read of the last episode. I couldn’t stop crying. I could not stop crying. I was like, ‘This is ridiculous. What is happening to me?’”

Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery is in development at Netflix; no release date has yet been announced.
