Gal Gadot’s tenure as Wonder Woman might be over, but questions have persisted about exactly what happened behind the scenes when James Gunn and Peter Safran took control of DC Studios. Back in 2023, Gadot publicly claimed that she had spoken with the new DC bosses about developing a third Wonder Woman movie together, only for reports to subsequently cast doubt on whether that was actually the plan. Three years later, Gadot has now doubled down on her version of events.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gadot has also criticized how the departures of Henry Cavill and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins were handled during DC’s transition. Gadot was asked if she was given a formal meeting with Gunn and Safran to explain that her time was up, and her answer was as surprising as anything you’d expect.

“No, they told me the opposite. They were like, ‘We’re going to develop it with you, the third…’ But I saw the way everybody else [was] handled, right?”

Gadot’s comments have added some context to the confusion surrounding Wonder Woman 3. The actress had previously said in 2023 that Gunn and Safran had spoken to her about developing another movie, but her version of events was disputed in subsequent reports. Her latest comments have made it clear that, from her perspective, she had been directly told that a third movie was still on the table.

Gal Gadot Says the DC Transition “Was Not Handled Elegantly”

Gadot has also opened up about watching what happened to some of her DCEU collaborators as Gunn and Safran prepared to launch their new DC Universe. Henry Cavill was forced into a mortifying comedown after he announced that he was returning to the role of Superman following a cameo in Black Adam. Cavill was later forced to confirm shortly afterward that he wouldn’t continue as the character under DC Studios’ new leadership, and Gunn himself has since described the situation surrounding Cavill as “unfortunate” and “unfair.” Gadot said:

“The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty. Was not handled elegantly.”

She nevertheless stressed that she understood Gunn and Safran were tasked with pursuing their own vision for DC, adding that “we’re all adults” and that the pair are doing what they believe in.

DC Studios hasn’t abandoned Wonder Woman herself. A new movie centered on the character is currently being developed, with Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira attached to write the screenplay. Gadot first appeared as Diana Prince in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before leading 2017’s Wonder Woman and its 2020 sequel, Wonder Woman 1984. Her tenure subsequently included Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

DC Studios is currently developing a new Wonder Woman movie, although a release date has not yet been announced.
