Considered “the best Spidey adventure in 20 years” by Collider‘s Charlie Ridgley, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has dominated headlines since its blockbuster debut at the end of July. Following the disappointing trio of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts*, and Captain America: Brave New World, released in 2025, expectations of the MCU‘s first big movie of 2026 were perhaps lower than previous Spidey installments. However, the power of the character, especially in the hands of Tom Holland, should never be underestimated.

It became instantly clear that Brand New Day wasn’t going to underperform at the box office, thanks to earning the biggest opening weekend in domestic history and the biggest first week haul of all time. But could Holland’s friendly neighborhood superhero maintain the momentum? A month later, Brand New Day remains untouchable to any box office competition, having ended August as the highest-grossing film every week, only losing the top spot on one day to a debuting Insidious: Out of the Further.

As it stands, Brand New Day is the third highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide, having overcome Avatar: The Way of Water last weekend. On the domestic charts, Brand New Day is currently in second place, with many wondering if it has the legs to swing past either of these all-time milestones and make history. On the global scale, Brand New Day is unlikely to topple the near-$3 billion of Avatar. However, just $43 million separates Brand New Day and Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the domestic charts, with it certainly realistic that, within the next couple of weeks, Brand New Day will become the highest-grossing movie of all time in the U.S.

What’s Next for Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’?

Holland himself might’ve admitted that “a whole plan” has been in the works regarding his replacement “since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home,” but the ending of Brand New Day would certainly suggest that more Holland action as Spidey is the most likely next step for the character. So, if Holland is to return, when will that be? Well, not for a while, according to Marvel Studios Producer and President Kevin Feige, who said that “right now, he’s [Holland] going to rest after that global tour. He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve.”
