HBO has had plenty of popular shows hit the air this year, especially back in January, when the streamer expanded two of its biggest established properties. After only a one-year gap between seasons, HBO brought back The Pitt for its second season, showing Noah Wyle putting on yet another Emmy-worthy performance as Dr. Robbie from Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. HBO also unleashed the debut season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms back in January, the new Game of Thrones show set between the events of the flagship series and the first spin-off, House of the Dragon. All these shows picked up millions of views during their initial viewing period on HBO Max, but the HBO series that still has fans talking almost a year removed from its global premiere is Heated Rivalry.

Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie star in the steamy hockey drama, which dropped on HBO last November after initially premiering on Crave in Canada. Heated Rivalry Season 1 proceeded to take over the world, spending months at the top of streaming charts and giving HBO no other option but to renew the show for Season 2. It took leading writer Jacob Tierney some time to pen the second season of Heated Rivalry, which is based on the book The Long Game by Rachel Reid, but cameras are finally rolling on the second season, which is expected to hit streaming in the first few months of 2027. This afternoon, HBO announced a few new casting additions to Heated Rivalry Season 2, including Kevin Zegers, Paul Gross, and even Milla Jovovich. Jovovich is best known for starring in iconic sci-fi thrillers like Hellboy, The Fifth Element, and even Resident Evil.

What Is ‘Heated Rivalry’ About?

HBO’s official synopsis for the first season of Heated Rivalry, which earned scores of 97% from critics and 88% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows: “A romance set in the world of hockey; Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov are two stars in Major League Hockey, bound by ambition, rivalry, and a magnetic pull neither of them fully understands.” Additional cast members for the first season of Heated Rivalry include François Arnaud as Scott Hunter, Callan Porter as Hayden Pike, Franco Lo Presti as Cliff Marleau, Christina Chang as Yuna Hollander, Benjamin Roy as JJ Dagenais, and more.
