HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series has welcomed a new Ginny Weasley for its second season. The recast comes after the original star announced her departure from the role.
HBO has announced that Bonnie Hill will play Ginny Weasley in Season 2 of its Harry Potter reboot. The young actress is replacing Gracie Cochrane, who has recently dropped out of the role “due to unforeseen circumstances.”
Hill has previously appeared in The Six Triple Eight (2024), Girl Troop versus Aliens (2026) and Film Club (2025).

Gracie Cochrane and her family had previously announced the actress’s departure from the Harry Potter show in a joint statement.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Gracie has made the challenging decision to step away from her role as Ginny Weasley in the HBO ‘Harry Potter’ series after Season 1,” they said. “Her time as part of the ‘Harry Potter’ world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience. HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot promises a faithful adaptation of J. K. Rowling’s fantasy adventure book series of the same name. Dominic McLaughlin plays the titular protagonist, along with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The trio was originally played in the film series by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.
The show’s main cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The first season will be based on the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on December 25, 2026. The series was renewed for a second season in May 2026 and is set to adapt the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
