Filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have scored a new Netflix TV show with Invincible star Steven Yeun. The new project seems to be a perfect second course for fans of the film Tropic Thunder.
Author Nicholas Binge’s short story, Understudy, has landed with Netflix. The Hollywood Reporter reports that for the story, the streaming giant allegedly shelled out $1 million. The story will be turned into a series, with Lord, Miller, and Yeun among the executive producers.
Understudy had seemingly taken Hollywood by storm, with producers and as many as 7 studios having chased the story before Netflix bagged it. Other executive producers include Binge, Aditya Sood, Dan Shear (both from Lord Miller), and Christina Oh (from Celadon).

Nicholas Binge is known for his sci-fi and horror offerings. Understudy is the story of an actor who gets hired for a unique role in South Korea. However, before long, deaths occur, and the actor comes to the painful realization that the job might not be as straightforward (or as innocent) as it looks.
Lord and Miller had a lot of success with their previous science fiction offering, 2026’s Project Hail Mary, which they directed. The duo is allegedly developing the script and may direct the pilot for the show. Yeun’s involvement in the project remains strictly as a producer, through his company Celadon Pictures. He is not attached to the series as part of its cast.
Binge has multiple projects in various stages of development across multiple studios. Apart from Understudy, his novel Dissolution is being adapted by Sony. His crime story, White Smoke, was sold to A24 UK, and has Benedict Cumberbatch attached to star in it.
