‘Point Break’ Is Getting a Sequel Series!!

Keanu Reeves‘ iconic action flick Point Break is getting a sequel. However, the franchise is returning in a different format this time.

AMC Networks has greenlit a Point Break sequel for AMC and AMC+ based on the 1991 action film starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. However, the follow-up will be a television series rather than a movie. Alcon Television Group will serve as the lead studio, with AMC Studios and StudioCanal co-producing.

The new Point Break series will be set in the same world as the original movie. Dave Kalstein and Christopher C. Rogers will serve as showrunners on the series. Production is set to begin in early 2027, and no cast has been announced yet.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the official logline of the upcoming Point Break series reads, “More than three decades after the events of the original Point Break film, a new heist crew inspired by the Ex-Presidents has emerged, and the FBI must rely on a mysterious ex-pro surfer with a checkered past to infiltrate them.”

What is Keanu Reeves’ Point Break movie about?

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the original 1991 Point Break starred Keanu Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah, who investigates a group of bank robbers suspected of being surfers. Amid the investigation, Utah develops a complex friendship with the group’s leader, Bodhi, played by Patrick Swayze.

Point Break also starred Gary Busey, Lori Petty, John C. McGinley, James LeGros, John Philbin, and more. A remake of the movie was released in 2015, but unlike the original, it received mostly negative reviews.

The upcoming Point Break series’ showrunners, Kalstein and Rogers, praised the original movie in a recent statement. “Point Break was the movie that rocked our worlds forever,” they said. “It was this wild cinematic sermon on friendship, outlaws, and spirituality that struck our souls. As we got older, we realized it hit millions of people the same way. Point Break is more than just a movie—it’s a way of looking at the world.

AMC has not announced a release window for the Point Break series yet.
