‘Dynamic Duo’: Animated ‘Batman’ Spin-Off Sees Release Delayed to 2028!!

Although Superman may have come first, Batman has long been DC Comics‘ signature character. Thus, it’s no surprise that DC Studios has several Batman projects in the works. However, we now know that you’ll have to wait a few extra months to see one of the studio’s most ambitious projects yet.

Most prominent, of course, is The Batman: Part II, the sequel to Matt Reeves‘ acclaimed The Batman; after several delays, it’s now set to hit theaters on February 18, 2028. James Gunn‘s new DC cinematic universe also has a Batman film in the works, in the form of The Brave and the Bold; a horror film spotlighting Batman’s most malleable foe, Clayface, hits theaters next month. Meanwhile, in the realm of animation, the first part of a trilogy of direct-to-video film adaptations of the seminal Knightfall saga was released in the summer, with two more parts on the horizon. Plus, the studio is working on an animated adaptation of its best-selling Absolute Batman comics.

Separate from all these other projects is Dynamic Duo, a film that will spotlight Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, two characters who have both served as Batman’s intrepid sidekick, Robin. It’s an animated film with a twist; it will also feature puppetry. It was originally set to come out on June 30, 2028, but it’s going to be slightly delayed. Now, it will be released on September 22, 2028. That gives The Batman: Part II more breathing room, and also lets DC target the back-to-school demographic; it also avoids Paramount‘s Call of Duty movie, as both films will by then be under the same corporate umbrella.

What Do We Know About ‘Dynamic Duo’?

Dynamic Duo‘s script is by Matthew Aldrich, an animation veteran with writing credits on Coco and Lightyear. It will be animated by Swaybox, a new animation studio based in New Orleans that was founded by husband-and-wife duo Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson; Minrz will direct the film. The movie is being produced under the auspices of DC Studios; however, it will presumably not be in-continuity with offerings like Creature Commandos, Lanterns, or Man of Tomorrow.
