One of the most honored movies in Hollywood history is returning to big screens in a newly remastered 4K presentation. The 1939 epic historical romance film won 10 of 13 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and remains a landmark in cinema.
Gone with the Wind is set to return to theaters on October 10. It will be a limited theatrical run for five days, closing out on October 14. Warner Bros. and Fathom Entertainment are bringing the classic film in a new 4K digital restoration. The screenings will show it in its full original length of 237 minutes, complete with an intermission, staying true to its 1939 premiere.
The movie stars Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara, Clark Gable as Rhett Butler, Olivia de Havilland as Melanie Hamilton, Leslie Howard as Ashley Wilkes, and Hattie McDaniel as Mammy.

Gone with the Wind returns to the big screen with more than a remastered presentation
In addition to the 4K presentation, the screenings will feature exclusive insights from film critic and historian Leonard Maltin. He will discuss Gone with the Wind and its place in cinema history as part of each Fathom Big Screen Classics presentation.
The return also gives audiences another opportunity to see a major Academy Awards milestone on the big screen. Apart from winning Best Picture, Leigh won Best Actress, while McDaniel earned Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Mammy. She became the first African American actor to receive an Oscar.
Set against the backdrop of the American Civil War, the movie tells the story of Scarlett O’Hara, the strong-willed daughter of a Georgia plantation owner. She struggles to rebuild her life while navigating her complicated relationship with Rhett Butler.
