A recent report suggests that Margot Robbie has dropped her last name and has taken her husband’s surname, Ackerley, according to their business documents. LuckyChap Entertainment, the production company the Barbie star co-owns with Ackerley, listed her under the new name. This became known after the documents were published by the UK’s Companies House this week (via Nine.com). Though the actress will still presumably star under the name Margot Robbie, fans took to social media to share their reactions to her legal surname change.
A user wrote, “I’m still calling her Margot Robbie.” Another one added, “I just know some s*** went down and this was the ultimatum.” A third person said, “A personal decision that deserves respect.” A fourth one commented, “He’s the one who needs to change his last name to robbie.” Other reactions also included, “It’s just a name. Idk why you guys are making such a big deal out of this” and “She made her last name iconic and ditched it.”
Ackerley and Robbie’s paths reportedly crossed in 2013 on the sets of Suite Française. The following year, the couple, alongside Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara, started a production company, while being roommates and also making their romance public. In 2016, they tied the knot at a private estate in Byron Bay, Australia.
After marriage, they made their first red-carpet appearance together at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. In an old interview with Porter, the Wuthering Heights actress also shared what it’s like to collaborate with her life partner. She said, “I’m a great advocate of doing business with your partner. Being married is actually the most fun ever—life got way more fun somehow. I have a responsibility, being someone’s wife. I want to be better” (via Harper’s Bazaar).
