2026 has been a delightful year for Game of Thrones fans, who have been treated to not one, but two projects for the first time in franchise history. The first Game of Thrones project to capture the hearts of fans around the world was A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is also a personal favorite of George R.R. Martin. The show has already been renewed for Season 2, and it’s even confirmed to premiere before the end of next year. While the same release window can’t be said about House of the Dragon Season 4, HBO has confirmed plans to shoot the fourth and final season next year, allowing it to return in 2028. Showrunner Ryan J. Condal has explicitly confirmed that it will be the final season of the spin-off series.
While there are other Game of Thrones projects in various stages of development, one of the most exciting of the bunch just received a massive update this afternoon. Announced earlier this year was the first ever Game of Thrones movie, which would focus on Aegon’s Conquest. Warner Bros confirmed the movie was in development via a press release addressing the status of its upcoming projects. This afternoon, Warner Bros announced that the new Game of Thrones feature film is officially coming to theaters on June 6, 2029. Andor’s Beau Willimon is writing the script with Owen Harris set to direct. Harris previously directed episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. If Aegon’s Conquest sticks to this 2029 launch date, this means that Game of Thrones fans will have new projects coming in each of the next three years.
Who Is Going To Star in ‘Aegon’s Conquest’?
While Warner Bros does have a release date for Aegon’s Conquest, no casting for the film had been announced at the time of writing in late September. With the movie not scheduled to be released until 2029, it’s possible that it won’t even begin shooting until 2028, meaning it could be closer to the end of next year before any casting information is made public. The movie will tell the story of Aegon’s mission on the back of Balerion the Black Dread, to conquer Westeros, putting the Targaryens in power.
