Apple TV may not have released new seasons of Severance or Pluribus this year for sci-fi fans, but the streamer continues to offer the best original programming of any platform. Apple TV has still had a strong focus on sci-fi this year with shows like the second season of Monarch and the third season of Silo. The streamer also got back into the crime thriller business courtesy of Anya Taylor-Joy and Timothy Olyphant’s new hit series, Lucky, which has still not been renewed for Season 2 despite widespread acclaim and streaming success. Apple TV also found tremendous success at the Emmys just a few weeks ago thanks to Widow’s Bay, the dark comedy/horror show starring Matthew Rhys. Apple TV has renewed Widow’s Bay for Season 2, but there’s no word yet on when it will be released.
Before any popular original shows like Severance or Widow’s Bay come back for new seasons, Apple TV has a new crime thriller officially coming soon that’s set to take over the world upon its arrival. This morning, Apple TV unleashed the first official trailer for Nocturne, which is set to begin streaming on the platform on October 30. The first two episodes of Nocturne are premiering at once, with new episodes following every Friday until the Season 1 finale on December 25. Liev Schreiber, best known for his role as Sabertooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, stars in the lead role in Nocturne, with Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham filling out the recurring cast. Beetz is famed for her role as Domino in the Deadpool movies, and Graham recently picked up recognition for his work writing and starring in Adolescence.
What Is ‘Nocturne’ About?
Nocturne was written and created for TV by BAFTA Award-winning scribe Rowan Joffe, who also executive produces the series along with John Havlin. Additional supporting cast members for Nocturne include Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan, and Gary Carr. Apple TV’s official synopsis for the new series, which seemingly has shades of other iconic crime thriller shows like Task and True Detective, reads as follows:
“Nocturne tells the story of Jonah Lynn (Schreiber), an ex-soldier turned homicide detective who, tired of working the tough streets of Philadelphia, moves to a small town in Western Pennsylvania for a quiet life. But, as the town and his family come under attack from the diabolically cunning serial killer Jurek Walter (Graham), Jonah must protect all that he holds dear. When the desperate search for Jurek’s last missing victim forces Jonah to send his surrogate daughter FBI Agent Saga Bauer (Beetz) up against Jurek, how far will Jonah go?”
