Zack Snyder has finally broken his silence on the possibility of Rebel Moon 3. However, the filmmaker’s latest update on the franchise isn’t as hopeful as fans expect.
Snyder opened up about his Rebel Moon franchise during an interview with The Direct at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). When asked whether a third installment is on the way, he said hesitantly, “I don’t know.”
The filmmaker added, “I think that, like, you know, I think that, like, you know, because I was saying recently, like, you know, I made those – the director’s cuts of the movies, and I just think it’s, like, one of those things where – and I do feel it, you know, is that as those maybe, like, get a little bit more popular and sort of, like, get discovered, then there’s a little bit more groundswell about maybe making another one.”
Last year, Rebel Moon’s co-writer Kurt Johnstad gave more hopeful news. He said, “We outlined movies 3, 4, 5, and 6… very detailed outlines, and Zack has literally plotted out the whole world,” at the Minutemen Podcast.
However, Snyder’s latest statement does not look as promising. There has been no additional news about the potential sequel’s development so far.
What happened in the first two Rebel Moon movies?
Snyder’s Rebel Moon franchise began in 2023 with Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. It is a space opera set in a fictional galaxy ruled by the imperialistic Motherworld. The regime’s military, the Imperium, is a constant oppressive threat to a village on the moon Veldt. The film follows Kora, a former Imperium soldier, who recruits powerful warriors from across the galaxy to unite against the Imperium.
The 2024 sequel, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, picks up right after the events of the first film. It sees Kora and her warrior allies on the moon of Veldt, where they join farmers in their fight to defend their home against the tyrannical Motherworld.
