Cregger followed Barbarian the only way he knew how: by delivering yet another iconic horror movie with Weapons. The 2025 film was so well received that it even earned Amy Madigan an Oscar for her performance as Gladys. Horror is often overlooked at the Oscars, so it was a historic moment to see the villain in a horror movie win Best Supporting Actress.

This year, Cregger’s big project is Resident Evil, the new movie inspired by the hit series of horror video games. Like Fallout, Cregger did not use a specific game to adapt his film and instead told a new story that fits into the existing Resident Evil canon. Cregger’s next two projects on the slate after Resident Evil are a new sci-fi thriller titled The Flood, and a new Weapons prequel movie centered around Amy Madigan’s Gladys. Both movies are coming to theaters in 2028, but this afternoon, Cregger’s new sci-fi movie received a colossal update. News broke this afternoon that Jennifer Lawrence has officially been tapped to star in the leading role in The Flood. Details about her role and the plot are being kept under wraps right now, but New Line Cinema is eyeing a 2027 shoot for the film ahead of its August 11, 2028, release date.

The only way to watch the film is by buying a ticket to see it in theaters, and as well as it’s doing at the box office right now, this will likely be the cast for at least a few more weeks. Resident Evil has already grossed $196 million at the box office against a $65 million budget, making it yet another of Cregger’s films to turn a profit.
