A ‘Fast & Furious’ TV Series Is Officially in the Works!!

Get ready to start your engines, Fast and Furious fans. While the latest, and possibly last film in the long-running series is still in the pits getting a tune-up before it hits the track, the franchise won’t remain at the starting gate for too long. It’s about to venture into territory it hasn’t explored before.

The series began as a low-budget film that combined street racing with crime, inspired by a 1998 article in Vibe. However, as the series’ box office grosses and budgets got bigger, the series progressively expanded in scope into a globe-trotting action-adventure saga, with supercars, super villains, and even a voyage into outer space. It centers around a team of street racers turned government agents, headed up by Dominic Torretto (Vin Diesel), his wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), and his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster), plus an ever-growing roster of allies and allies-turned enemies; ex-cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) was also a series mainstay until Walker‘s death in 2013.

A Fast and Furious series has been given the green light at Peacock. The high-octane action franchise will be getting a new scripted TV series set in the world of the movies. It was first announced by series star Diesel in the spring, and now it’s been ordered by the streamer, an arm of the Universal conglomerate that also releases the films. The live-action series will be showrun and written by Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy) and Wolfe Coleman (911: Lone Star); the duo previously worked on the series Shades of Blue together. Diesel will executive produce, alongside Sam Vincent, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Chris Morgan. It’s actually the second time the franchise has come to the small screen, albeit the first time in live-action: the CG-animated Fast and Furious Spy Racers ran on Netflix for 52 episodes between 2019 and 2021.

What’s the Status of ‘Fast Forever’?

Fast Forever, purportedly the final film in the Fast and Furious saga, has still not entered production, three years after Fast X hit theaters. The movie is set to be directed by Louis Letterier, who also helmed Fast X, and has been given a preliminary release date of March 17, 2028. Some cast members have expressed dissatisfaction at the increasingly outlandish nature of the franchise, and it’s not clear when, or if, the film will get off the starting blocks.

A Fast and Furious TV series is in development at Peacock; it is aiming at a release in 2028.
