Prime Video has released the first teaser trailer for Barbershop, the upcoming comedy series inspired by the film franchise starring Ice Cube. The upcoming show will bring the franchise to TV for the second time, following the 2005 spin-off, Beauty Shop.
Marshall Todd, one of the co-writers of the original film, is spearheading the franchise’s long-awaited return. The original film saw Ice Cube playing Calvin Palmer, and the show continues his legacy. The Barbershop series follows Travis “Trav” Walker, played by Jermaine Fowler, as he returns to Chicago to honor his grandfather’s legacy at the iconic Calvin’s barbershop. As the shop has changed so much over the years, Trav struggles to find his place there and in the city.

What happens in the Barbershop trailer?
The trailer opens with Trav introducing himself to the barbershop workers, letting them know he is the new owner. As Trav deals with the current employees, a montage highlights their eccentricities and those of the many regular customers. The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the show’s plot but features several comedic moments that tease its humor.
Besides Fowler, the cast also includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman. Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker, and Belmont Cameli also appear as guest stars.
Amazon MGM Studios produced the show while Marshall Todd served as writer and co-showrunner with Max Searle. Executive producers include Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, and Tiffany Brown for Hartbeat; Bradley Gardner for Busy B Entertainment; Cameron Burnett and Autumn Bailey-Ford for Prominent Productions; George L. Tillman and Robert Teitel for State Street Pictures; Jermaine Fowler; and the series director Oz Rodriguez.
The original film was released in 2002, with its critical and financial success paving the way for three more films and a TV spin-off. The franchise has grossed over $235 million worldwide, and the latest film, Barbershop: The Next Cut, earned $55 million following its 2016 release.
Barbershop will premiere all eight episodes on February 10, 2027, exclusively on Prime Video.
