‘Insomnia’: Christopher Nolan’s 2002 Underrated Feature Is Getting a Series Adaptation!!

One of Christopher Nolan‘s earlier films is getting a new adaptation in a surprising format. The filmmaker’s 2002 film Insomnia, starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams, is being considered for a British TV adaptation.

A report from Deadline reveals that Alcon International Studios plans to explore UK series adaptations of properties in its library. This includes Nolan’s Insomnia, which Alcon Entertainment co-produced, among other properties. No other details about the TV adaptation were revealed.

Alcon International Studios is a newly formed venture by Alcon Entertainment. The studio was most recently involved in the production and distribution of a new Point Break TV show. It’s unclear whether Nolan himself will be involved in any capacity with the TV adaptation of Insomnia.

What is Christopher Nolan’s Insomnia movie about?

Insomnia is one of Nolan’s more overlooked films. The psychological thriller follows Los Angeles homicide detective Will Dormer (Pacino) as he investigates a murder in Alaska. Through his investigation, Dormer faces off against Williams’ Walter Finch, whom he suspects of the murder.

Upon release, the film received positive reviews and ranks highly among Nolan’s directorial efforts. It has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience score is Nolan’s second-lowest for a feature after Tenet. At the time, the film grossed over $113 million worldwide.

Insomnia is also Nolan’s only direct remake, based on the 1997 Norwegian film directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg. Surprisingly, Nolan has never worked with any of Insomnia’s cast following its release. The filmmaker is well-known for collaborating with actors he has worked with before, such as Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, and Christian Bale.

Most recently, Nolan directed a feature adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey that got rave reviews and has grossed more than $1.7 billion worldwide. The filmmaker has not revealed what his next project will be about.
