Lanterns Season 2 has received positive news from its creator, ahead of HBO greenlighting the show for production. The creator also hinted that a fan-favorite character may debut in the DCU in the second season.
In a recent episode of The Ringer-Verse podcast, Chris Mundy revealed a potential major plot detail for Lanterns Season 2. Mundy was asked whether the sequel would introduce other Green Lantern characters to the DCU. He responded, “Venessa [Baden Kelly] is talking a big Kilowog game for a long time.”
In the comics, Kilowog is an alien from the planet Bolovax Vik and is a prominent member of the Green Lantern Corps from Sector 674. As noted above, the studio hasn’t greenlit the second season yet; however, the writers, including Kelly, have been discussing plot details.
Moreover, Mundy revealed that Lanterns Season 2 won’t take place in Rushville, since the first season resolved its mystery. He added, “It’s going to be an Earth-based story that we continue, most likely. I mean, we’ve shown that you can leave the planet, so that’s good, right? But because of that, we want to make whoever’s here as sort of grounded and real as possible.”
What happened in the first season of Lanterns?
Lanterns Season 1 premiered on HBO on August 16, 2026. The show follows a new recruit, John Stewart, who teams up with Lantern legend Hal Jordan to learn the ropes of becoming a Lantern. Together, the intergalactic cops are thrown into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in Rushville, Nebraska, in the American heartland.
However, the murder investigation becomes more complicated than the duo expected. They run into other Green Lantern characters from the comics, including Thaal Sinestro, who plays a vital role in the season’s finale.
Season 1 stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry Kane, Ulrich Thomsen as Thaal Sinestro, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, among others. The release date and cast details for Season 2 have not yet been revealed.
