‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Live-Action Movie Officially in the Works!!

Rockstar is the big gaming studio that everyone is looking to right now, especially with the looming release of Grand Theft Auto VI, but there is another studio that has delivered a few hits in recent years. We’re talking, of course, about CD Projekt Red, the same studio behind The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red is also hard at work developing The Witcher 4, which is confirmed to release sometime in 2028, along with a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which likely won’t be released until years later. Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the first next-generation titles launched on PS5 and XBOX Series X|S, and the game launched in such a poor state that CD Projekt Red was forced to issue full refunds to those who were unable to play.

In the last few years, Cyberpunk 2077 has experienced a full redemption arc. This is due to a number of quality of life updates, as well as the full DLC, Phantom Liberty, which stars Idris Elba. CD Projekt Red has also completely reworked Cyberpunk 2077’s skill tree and cyberware abilities, giving the game more replay value and improving overall playability. While plot details about the Cyberpunk sequel are being kept under wraps, there is a new Cyberpunk project to be excited about, and we’re not talking about the second season of Cyberpunk Edgerunners on Netflix. News broke this afternoon that a Cyberpunk 2077 movie is officially in the early stages of development at Paramount. No word yet on the plot, creatives, or cast, other than Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to produce the feature.

Will Keanu Reeves Be in the ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Movie?

Casting information about the Cyberpunk movie is being kept under wraps right now, but if the movie is going to adapt the events of the game, it’s hard to imagine Keanu Reeves not returning in some capacity as Johnny Silverhand. However, it’s also possible that Paramount will take Cyberpunk down the Fallout route, meaning it will tell a story set in the same universe as Cyberpunk 2077, but tell a new story with new characters. Fans are already speculating about who could be the perfect director to helm the film, but with development still at such a young stage, it’s far too early to predict who could step behind the camera for the Cyberpunk movie.
