Marvel‘s television slate is going through a bit of an overhaul. The House of Mouse appears to be pulling back on its small-screen live-action MCU productions after once going all-in with series like Moon Knight, Loki, and WandaVision. It began with the decision to reverse Wonder Man‘s renewal for Season 2 despite its success with critics and audiences, and, more recently, Daredevil: Born Again‘s upcoming third season was announced to be its last as Dario Scardapane‘s contract expires. On the animation side, though, the company is still full speed ahead.

On the back of its second acclaimed season earlier this year, X-Men ’97 has been renewed through Season 4 and is targeting yearly releases going forward. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is hoping to get on a yearly release model itself, with its return coming soon in January, two years after the series reimagined the MCU origins of Peter Parker (Hudson Thames). Created by Jeff Trammell, the web-slinging alternate universe where Spidey is mentored by Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) instead of Tony Stark will expand in a major way in Season 2, bringing in classic villains like Rhino, Lizard, and most excitingly, the symbiote Venom, as well as a familiar ally in Gwen Stacy, who’ll operate as Ghost Spider. After D23 attendees got an early look at footage of the wall-crawler back in action, the series has made the trip to New York Comic Con alongside the X-Men throwback.

During the event’s massive Marvel Television and Animation panel, a first look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 that emphasizes the presence of Venom above all and confirms a January 13, 2027, return. Now that he has some experience under his belt, he’ll be better prepared to handle the myriad of dangerous new threats coming his way, but given the way the symbiote’s insignia overshadows him on the poster, it’s safe to say he’s not quite ready for what’s to come. The young web-slinger will have a lot on his plate, as Season 1 also ended with the reveal that Peter’s father, Richard (Josh Keaton), is not only alive, but in prison, meaning he could factor into Spider-Man’s life as soon as he learns the truth. Norman’s dangerous work on Project Manhattan also leaves Peter disillusioned with his mentor and now working with Harry (Zeno Robinson) on his own company.
