ABC is developing an American adaptation of a British mystery-comedy. The network has ordered a pilot based on the BBC series Ludwig, with Mythic Quest creators Megan Ganz and Humphrey Ker attached to lead the project.
According to TheWrap, Rabbit centers on a puzzle writer whose life changes after his twin brother disappears. Ganz and Ker will write and executive-produce the pilot, with several members of the original Ludwig team also joining as executive producers. The duo previously collaborated on Apple TV’s Mythic Quest. Ganz’s other television credits include It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Modern Family, Community, and The Last Man on Earth. Ker has also worked on Curb Your Enthusiasm and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Rabbit follows a puzzle writer searching for his missing twin
The story follows Mark, a reclusive puzzle writer who goes by Rabbit. His twin brother, a homicide detective, mysteriously disappears, prompting Mark to assume his identity and join the Cambridge, Massachusetts police department. He hopes the position will give him access to clues that could help locate his brother. Mark’s puzzle-solving background also gives him an unusual skill set to ace in the department. As he works alongside police officers, he applies his ability to recognize patterns and solve complex problems to the cases he encounters.
Ludwig creator Mark Brotherhood and star David Mitchell are also executive producing the adaptation. Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz will serve as executive producers, alongside Kenton Allen for Big Talk. 20th Television is producing the pilot.
The original series premiered on the BBC in 2024 and became the network’s biggest new scripted show of the year. It follows Mitchell’s character as he steps into his missing identical twin’s life and becomes involved with the police. BBC renewed Ludwig for a second season, which premiered in the U.K. in August 2026. The second season will premiere on BritBox in the U.S. on October 13, 2026, while production on a third season is already underway.
ABC has not yet announced casting or a release date for Rabbit.
