Tom Holland has landed his next movie following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor will also play an important behind-the-scenes role in the project.
According to Deadline, Tom Holland is set to star in Penthouse, an upcoming film, based on an original concept by acclaimed screenwriter Drew Pearce. The movie has been acquired by Sony Pictures and will be produced by Holland’s production company Billy17 and Pearce’s Point Of No Return.
Pearce, whose previous credits include Iron Man 3, The Thomas Crown Affair, and The Fall Guy, will write the screenplay for Penthouse. Meanwhile, Holland and his Billy17 partners will reportedly play a key role in the film’s development. Ian Fisher of Point of No Return will serve as an executive producer.
Plot and further cast details of Penthouse remain under wraps for now. However, the movie is described as a thriller.
Tom Holland’s growing partnership with Sony
Penthouse marks Tom Holland’s next collaboration with Sony following the overwhelming success of its Spider-Man film series.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest installment in the franchise, has broken multiple major box office records following its theatrical debut in July. The movie has become the third-highest-grossing film of all time, with Avengers: Endgame at the top and Avatar trailing behind at No. 2.
Beyond Penthouse, Holland’s packed slate with Sony includes playing the lead in an upcoming Fred Astaire biopic alongside Margaret Qualley, Sabrina Carpenter, and Talia Ryder.
Meanwhile, there has also been speculation that Holland may reprise his role as Peter Parker in Avengers: Doomsday. However, his return in the movie remains unconfirmed.
Most recently, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the future of Spider-Man movies in the MCU. Speaking with Variety in August, he stated that Holland and Zendaya would take a much-deserved break before plans for Spider-Man 5 are discussed.
