For many decades now, October has been widely considered to be the Halloween month. However, while October 2026 is inclined to carry on this tradition, the month has thrown in some spice ahead of the end-of-month celebration — Russell Crowe has two new movies out. From early on in his career, the actor was tipped for greatness and a cursory look at his credits affirms success on his part. In October 2026, Crowe has one movie on streaming, Unabomber, currently on Netflix and doing its best to shake off its negative criticisms. Crowe, who is no stranger to having his pictures on the big screen, has his latest theatrical feature, The Weight, succeeding with critics where Unabomber has failed.
However, The Weight, Padraic McKinley‘s directorial debut and also starring Ethan Hawke, is not the only film featuring Crowe that will be in theaters as the year winds down. While Crowe has never won an Emmy, the acclaimed actor has three Academy Award nominations, with his only win coming for Best Actor in a leading role for his performance as Maximus Decimus Meridius in the 2000 film, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. A year later, Crowe would star in the critical and commercial hit that is A Beautiful Mind, a 2001 docudrama which retells the story of the mathematical genius, John Nash, and his lifelong battle with schizophrenia, and earn yet another nomination.
Now, nearly 25 years after its premiere, A Beautiful Mind is set to return to theaters for two nights, November 22 and 23, as part of Fathom Entertainment’s 2026 annual Big Screen Classics film series. Having premiered in December 2001, the docudrama succeeded commercially as it grossed more than $300 million worldwide on a reported $60 million budget. Despite Crowe not winning his Best Actor nomination — missing out to Denzel Washington in Training Day — A Beautiful Mind still won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress.
‘A Beautiful Mind’ Made History for Its Stars
Based on the book of the same name by Sylvia Nasar, A Beautiful Mind starred Crowe as Nash, Ed Harris as Parcher, Jennifer Connelly as Alicia, Paul Bettany as Charles, Adam Goldberg, Judd Hirsch, Josh Lucas, Anthony Rapp, with Christopher Plummer as Dr. Rosen. Looking back, the film made history on so many levels, both collectively and individually. For example, Connelly celebrated her only Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress on the back of playing Alicia Nash in the Ron Howard-directed film. But the Snowpiercer star wasn’t the only one making history on A Beautiful Mind. With his nomination for Best Actor, Crowe joined an elite list of actors who were nominated for an Oscar three years in a row. First for his performance in The Insider, directed by Michael Mann. Then a year later in Gladiator and finally as John Forbes Nash, Jr. in A Beautiful Mind.
A Beautiful Mind is in theaters on November 22 and 23, 2026.
