What do we know about Dune: Part Three’s plot so far?

Based on Frank Herbert’s classic novel Dune Messiah, the story picks up nearly two decades after Paul Atreides becomes Emperor. “Now a ruthless emperor, he must face the consequences of his reign as old allies return, terrifying new threats emerge, and betrayal lurks in every shadow,” reads a part of its official description.

The narrative also explores a complicated relationship between Paul and Chani as rebellion threatens their world. Meanwhile, Duncan Idaho returns as a resurrected ghola named Hayt, adding further emotional conflict to Paul’s life. A new villain, Scytale, leads a covert Bene Tleilax scheme targeting House Atreides from the shadows.

The film also stars Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Charlotte Rampling, Isaach de Bankolé, among others. Denis Villeneuve returns to direct the third film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Brian K. Vaughan. The Oscar-winning filmmaker also produces the feature with his wife and Tanya Lapointe, Legendary’s Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, and Joseph M. Caracciolo Jr.

Dune: Part Three releases on December 18, the same day as Avengers: Doomsday.
