What makes Naruto one of the biggest anime franchises in the world?

Fans are familiar with Naruto’s enduring legacy and impact on global pop culture. The franchise began with Masashi Kishimoto’s iconic manga, which debuted in 1999. The series has since sold more than 250 million copies in over 60 countries and territories, becoming a multibillion-dollar franchise. The subsequent anime adaptations, Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, also became massive global successes.

Naruto tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who strives to become the Hokage, his village’s leader. This enduring story of friendship, resilience, and sacrifice continues to capture hearts decades after its release, proving the franchise’s lasting appeal.

“As a longtime fan of NARUTO, I’ve always loved that beneath the extraordinary action is a story filled with heart, humor, and humanity,” Cretton said in a statement. “Kishimoto-sensei created a world where unlikely heroes do extraordinary things, and that’s what makes it so special. Lionsgate has been an incredible partner, and I’m thrilled to reunite with the fantastic team at Sony. Together, we’re committed to capturing everything fans love about NARUTO while introducing it to a whole new generation. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’re creating.”

Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Emmy Yu will produce the live-action Naruto film for Arad Productions. Cretton and Jeyun Munford will also produce for Hisako.
