Although it took a bit longer than fans hoped, James Reece is finally back on Prime Video and thriving. Chris Pratt‘s action thriller series The Terminal List debuted its second season on October 21, finally tackling the second novel in Jack Carr‘s gritty universe, True Believer, a full four years after the show premiered. The series’ return picked up with Reece as he washed ashore overseas and found himself roped into a dangerous new mission involving a global conspiracy stretching through the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, and ultimately tying back to his own country. Critics and audiences have both praised the cinematic action and high stakes with 73% and 90% scores, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes, and now, the streamer has already decided the show’s future.
Prime Video is officially planning to continue adapting more of Carr‘s novels. The streamer will bring to life the third installment, Savage Son, though it’s currently unknown whether it’ll be treated as Season 3 of the flagship series or a standalone title, à la the Taylor Kitsch-led prequel spin-off, Terminal List: Dark Wolf. Nonetheless, it’s a commitment to keep telling more war stories with the former Navy SEAL. Amazon MGM Studios, MRC, and Civic Center Media will produce the new entry.
Savage Son was published in 2020 and once again raises the stakes for Reece. The former Navy sniper is faced with his greatest personal threat yet when a traitorous CIA officer takes refuge with the Russian mafia, who are hell-bent on seeing him put in the ground. Recovering from brain surgery in the familiar confines of the Montana wilderness, he’s starting to reassemble a relatively normal life, with assistance from journalist Katie Buranek and his longtime friend and SEAL teammate Raife Hastings. However, he’s soon forced to revive his particular brand of vengeance and bring it straight to the Russians’ doorstep when it becomes clear someone in the U.S. government is compromised by foreign intelligence. In all likelihood, the series will stick close to these events as Reece builds his team of commandos to take the fight to his pursuers.
‘The Terminal List’ Is One of Prime Video’s Biggest Action Hits
Amazon planning more of The Terminal List isn’t particularly shocking. The series has become a fan favorite, racking up over 100 million viewers worldwide heading into Season 2 and earning praise for its military authenticity thanks to the team of veterans among its crew and Carr‘s own experience as a former SEAL. “Jack Carr’s work has connected with audiences in a way that speaks to the power of his storytelling and the incredible dedication Chris Pratt and the entire team bring to every episode,” Amazon MGM Studios‘ head of global television Peter Friedlander wrote in an official statement. “The Terminal List franchise continues to resonate, and Savage Son takes the story into its most intense chapter yet.” Tom Hopper, Constance Wu, Dar Salim, Gabriel Luna, and Luke Hemsworth starred alongside Pratt in the latest installment. There’s no word on who could be back for Savage Son yet.
The Terminal List was evidently betting on Savage Son being adapted, given that it introduces the aforementioned traitorous agent Oliver Grey (Jeremy Bobb) and creates some direct ties to the events of the third novel. In an exclusive interview with Collider‘s Christina Radish, showrunner David DiGilio teased how the show has been building towards what he believes “might be the most anticipated season” for fans and, critically, expressed his hopes for a quicker turnaround this time.
“I think there is a big push from the fan base, for sure, and we feel it as well. The trick is to remember that we’ve all been gifted with Chris Pratt, one of the biggest movie stars in the world, as our hero and our EP on these shows. Chris, as a major movie star, has enormous obligations on the movie front. He’s also an incredibly dedicated family man and is always sure to be there for his family, for his kids, and for his wife. But the answer is yes, we are going to turn it around faster. That’s a big goal.”
The Terminal List Season 2 is now streaming in its entirety on Prime Video.
