2026 has been a benchmark year for Matt Damon so far, and while he’ll be remembered for his role in The Odyssey, he also starred in another movie that was loved by fans around the world. Back in January, Damon teamed up with his long-time collaborator and friend, Ben Affleck, for the Netflix original crime thriller, The Rip. While the film didn’t quite do enough to merit a spot in the all-time Netflix top 10 list, it did earn over 100 million views during its first 90 days on streaming, which was enough to make it one of the most-watched movies of the entire year. Damon is expected to earn an Oscar nod for his role as Odysseus in The Odyssey, but only time will tell if his performance was strong enough to beat out some of the other actors in the category.
Just because Matt Damon has had a career year in 2026 doesn’t mean he’s interested in slowing down beyond this year, though. News broke this afternoon that Damon is the latest to join the wacky new action movie in the works from producer Matthew Vaugh, Stuntnuts. The movie already stars Chris Hemsworth and Sam Rockwell as heightened versions of themselves, and it’s described as an homage to stuntmen and women around the world who make the biggest action blockbusters possible. Vaughn is involved through UR MARV, his joint venture with soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Damien Walters, who is best known for his stunt work with Daniel Craig during his James Bond tenure, especially on the film Skyfall, has been tapped to direct the new action feature.
Matthew Vaughn’s Last Movie Bombed at the Box Office
Best known for his work directing the Kingsmen movies starring Taron Egerton, Vaughn took his talents to Apple TV in 2024 to helm Argylle, the sleek spy thriller starring Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard. The movie came into theaters carrying a $200 million budget, which meant it needed to earn nearly $500 million just to break even. However, it left theaters after grossing only $96 million at the global box office — it’s estimated to be one of the most painful box office losses of all time. The movie also features other stars like John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson.
