The Boy Next Door (2015) Review!!

2014_The_Boy_Next_DoorSynopsis – A newly divorced woman falls for a younger man who has recently moved in across the street from her, but their torrid affair soon takes a dangerous turn.

My Take – This is one of those kind of films which you may have seen innumerable times in recent history. You don’t have to be a film fanatic to know what will happen next and lamentably, the way everything plays out doesn’t compensate the maker’s absence of imagination. Of course, there’s a tolerable rush or two and a tiny bit of senseless fun in there, however it never does anything to truly impress a moviegoer or even impress itself! The follows high school teacher Claire Peterson (Jennifer Lopez) who has moved into a quite suburban setting with her son,  Kevin (Ian Nelson) after separation from her cheating husband Garrett Peterson (John Corbett). While the husband is trying to win her back, her sudden attraction to high school er Noah Sandborn (Ryan Guzman), a jacked and very agreeable young person, sends her down a dangerous path. You see where this is going, right? Obviously you do, in light of the fact that chances are you’ve seen this all play out in a gazillion different motion pictures and that is this film’s greatest issue.

The-Boy-Next-Door-MovieThere are simply such a variety of tropes in here and you’ll have the capacity to foresee pretty much everything that happens. You’ll see the turns and dramatization advancing a mile away. In the event that a film is concentrating on strain and rushes, it needs some great shocks tossed in there and this film doesn’t generally offer any of that. There were no elements of surprise whatsoever, there wasn’t even anything remotely scary about it. Most of what we get is nude shots of Jennifer’s Lopez’s body and gratuitous sex scenes. The acting was so awful that it would make you laugh. The fight scene were unrealistic and looked as if the actors didn’t know what they were doing and had to constantly had be directed by the camera man. The only thing this movie tries to do differently is that instead of having it be a female obsessed over a man they switch it up. For the ladies you will be more than happy with Ryan Guzman on this he is there for eye candy and you definitely get your monies worth out of him. Guys you will be slightly disappointed. Yes we get some hot and steamy scenes from Jennifer Lopez but we really do not see anything we haven’t seen in any of her music videos or other commercials. And to tell you the truth since we have a lot of cut scenes I would not be surprised to learn that some of those scenes were a J-Lo body double. Its pretty clear the studio knew it isn’t that great of a movie so they place it in January where usually there is not a lot of great movies out there during this time.

thumbnail_19467Jennifer Lopez isn’t a bad actress, but she is so miscast so miserably as a high school English teacher that not even a seasoned Hollywood helmer like Rob Cohen can salvage this substandard stalker saga. Although he has directed hits like “The Fast and the Furious” and “xXx” as well as above-average epics like “Daylight,” “Stealth,” and “Alex Cross,” Cohen appears appallingly out of his element with this formulaic fiasco. Not only does the tawdry film miscast Lopez, but also it makes Ryan Guzman, John Corbett, and Hill Harper look just as inapt. Whatever Lopez and the other twelve producers on this picture admired about rookie writer Barbara Curry’s screenplay must have been either altered or didn’t survive the final cut. Frankly, this so called erotic thriller is definitely one of the worst movies I have seen in recent history. Some movies can be panned critics and still be somewhat entertaining. This movie is NOT one of them. The acting was horrendous (especially at the end), the plot was absolutely cheesy, and the whole script was pretty much chaos. This film was like a rip-off of movies like Fatal Attraction or American Psycho. But just done way worse!
