Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) returns to the big screen in Inferno, the third of Ron Howard’s adaptations of Dan Brown’s best-selling thriller novels. This is actually the fourth novel from Brown and it’s the latest story in the series’ chronology. Howard directed The Da Vinci Code to the tune of over $758 million globally in 2006, followed by the 2009 movie Angels & Demons, which came up just short of $500 million. While that book was considered a prequel to The Da Vinci Code, Howard’s big-screen version was squarely set in sequel territory.

Inferno moves the story forward past Brown’s third book “The Lost Symbol” and jumps straight to the most recent tale, published in 2013. Though we’ve seen a few images from the film already, today we get the first good look at a new official poster. Also starring Felicity Jones, Ben Foster, Omar Sy, and Irrfan Khan, Inferno is set to open for Columbia Pictures in the U.S. on October 28th, though the film will see an international rollout starting October 12th.

He does look confused, doesn’t he? Maybe it’s the fact that Langdon is supposed to have amnesia in this film. Hopefully it’s just the loss of his short-term memory and not that of his extensive historical knowledge, otherwise there’s no reason for him to be there.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Academy Award® winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest bestseller in Dan Brown’s (Da Vinci Code) billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, Inferno, which finds the famous symbologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.
