While, I haven’t seen (yet) some critically well received films like Moonlight, Silence, Fences, 20th Century Women & Elle, (which I am sure would have affected my list), I have tried my best to bring down some of the best & worst to come out in 2016. Performances wise, I really do think the year belong to Amy Adams, who shined in not one, but three films, ranging from leading a science fiction film to being a stand out of an ensemble superhero extravaganza. Following up very close, in my opinion, is Natalie Portman especially for playing the ex First Lady so brilliantly. Unfortunately I could not get Mary Elizabeth Winstead (for 10 Cloverfield Lane) & Emily Blunt (for The Girl on the Train) in the 4th & 5th place as I do believe Ruth Negga (for Loving) & the young Hailee Steinfeld (for The Edge of Seventeen) deserve more credit for their performances. The below are in the my opinion the 5 best Hollywood performances (female) of the year :
- Amy Adams – Arrival, Nocturnal Animals, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
- Natalie Portman – Jackie, Jane Got a Gun
- Jessica Chastain – Miss Sloane
- Ruth Negga – Loving
- Hailee Steinfeld – The Edge of Seventeen
