Mean Creek director Jacob Estes finally has a new film on the docket, a Blumhouse produced time travel thriller that is set to star Selma’s David Oyelowo. There’s not a lot to report on the film yet, as the logline is being kept underwraps, but Deadline reports that Jason Blum is producing, with Oyelowo is executive producing alongside Couper Samuelson, Jeanette Volturno and Jay Martin.

That’s not a lot to go on, but Mean Creek was a fantastic film, and the idea of a time travel film with a black protagonist leave a lot of interesting subjects on the table to be explored. It’s a subject that hasn’t been explored much outside of Octavia Butler‘s extraordinary novel Kindred, and a really good standup set from Louis C.K. Of course, since we don’t know anything about the film at this point, it’s possible that Only You could have nothing to do with race at all, but it’s certainly a promising and under-utilized story should the filmmakers chose to go that direction.
