Yes, you read that right. For season 13, Supernatural will be doing a crossover with Scooby-Doo in an animated episode. Stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki made the announcement at The CW‘s upfronts, showing off an actual cartoon picture of Dean and Sam Winchester alongside Scooby-Doo. Madness.
And it’s no joke, either. It’s the real deal.
We don’t know whether or not Castiel (Misha Collins), Crowley (Mark A Sheppard), Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino), or any of the other Supernatural characters will be showing up – or whether or not we’ll be seeing Shaggy, Daphne, Fred, Velma or Shaggy for that matter, either. But the idea is brilliantly bizarre, and we can’t wait to see how the episode goes down.
Interestingly, an old season two episode referenced Scooby-Doo:
“Might even run into Fred and Daphne while we’re inside,” Dean tells Sam. “Mmm. Daphne. Love her.” Suffice to say, Dean will probably be gutted if Daphne isn’t there.
Earlier this season, Supernatural had a neat Walking Dead Easter egg as Dean was seen holding Lucille (Negan’s weapon of choice). Negan is, of course, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan – who was Dean and Sam’s father John. “Man, Dad loved this thing,” Dean said as he put Lucille down on the table.
Supernatural wrapped up its 12th season on May 18 on The CW with a double episode.
