Lara Croft is headed back to theaters, and she looks more rough-and-tumble than ever in a new batch of images. Oscar-winning Danish Girl actress Alicia Vikander stars as the iconic video game character, reimagined in keeping with the 2013 video game reboot. A 21-year-old bike courier in East London, Croft refuses to follow in her father’s entrepreneurial footsteps, leaving behind her old life in search of the mythical island where her father disappeared.
Roar Uthaug (The Wave) directs the action adventure, and it sure looks like there’s going to be plenty of pulse-pounding action and stunt-driven sequences from the new bach of images Warner Bros. just dropped. Vikander is biking, kickboxing, rock climbing, puzzle-solving, arrow-firing, and all kinds of athletic adventuring in line with her character’s video game background. It all looks very good, very updated, and I’m reluctantly getting my hopes up about a video game adaptation. Again. Here’s hoping Tomb Raider is the one that finally cracks the curse.
Also starring Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Derek Jacobi, and Kristin Scott Thomas, Tomb Raider opens March 16th. Check out the official synopsis for Tomb Raider below, followed by the action-packed batch of new images.
