John Williams, arguably the greatest film composer who has ever lived, thinks it’s time he said farewell to the Star Wars franchise. After winning an Oscar for the first Star Wars movie, he went on to score every other movie in the main saga and also provided a theme for the upcoming Solo. However, he now tells radio station KUSC [via THR] that J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX will be the last time he scores a Star Wars movie.

“We know J.J. Abrams is preparing one now for next year that I will hopefully do for him, and I look forward to it,” Williams said. “It will round out a series of nine and be quite enough for me.”

No one tells Williams what to do at this point in his career, and when you’re a living legend, you certainly don’t need to keep doing Star Wars movies even if you’re still turning out great scores like the one he did for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It will be interesting to hear what kind of themes he brings to the final chapter of the main Star Wars saga, and even if there are more direct sequels somewhere in our future, getting Williams to do the main nine puts a nice button on the saga.

Filming on Star Wars: Episode IX is set to begin this summer. The film opens December 20, 2019 and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver.
