At around the same time that Oscar-nominee Margot Robbie dropped an Instagram shot of herself in costume as Harley Quinn in the DC Comics/Warner Bros. movie, Birds of Prey, a new teaser video also went live. Granted, the YouTube user in question here is CheekySneakyPeeky, so obviously it’s 100% legit. Rest assured though, it looks more like a coordinated studio teaser than any kind of leak, so you can enjoy this first video teaser of the costumed cast in motion. Not only are there some fantabulous costumes on display, teasing the creative vision of the film and how it deviates from the DC Extended Universe’s darker and more subdued hues, it also shows off the cast members in hero shots. Sure, each of the stills are out of context and awash with color and dim lighting so they don’t tell us much about what’s going on in the movie, but it’s a pretty solid teaser for starters.
Birds of Prey, directed by Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), also stars Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya. Now filming, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) opens February 7, 2020.
