‘Irresistible’: Mackenzie Davis to Join Steve Carell in Jon Stewart’s Film!!

Fresh off a well-received presentation for Terminator: Dark Fate at CinemaCon, its badass-looking star Mackenzie Davis is in negotiations to join Steve Carell and Rose Byrne in Jon Stewart‘s political satire Irresistible, Collider has exclusively learned.

Sources say the story follows a slick Democratic strategist (Carell) who helps a retired veteran (Chris Cooper) run for Mayor in a small, right-wing town in Wisconsin — which is, of course, a swing state. Byrne will play Carell’s cutthroat Republican counterpart who campaigns on behalf of the local mayor, while Davis is nearing a deal to play Cooper’s daughter.

Stewart is putting together quite the ensemble for his second film — we hear Topher Grace is also poised to join the cast — which is obviously much more commercial than his directorial debut Rosewater, which starred Gael García Bernal. I imagine that Stewart learned quite a few things from his first film and is eager to apply those lessons to Irresistible, which seems like a smart play for the election year that is 2020.

The former Daily Show host wrote the original screenplay and will produce along with Brad Pitt‘s company Plan B Entertainment, and Focus Features will distribute the film.

Best known for her starring role on AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire, Davis’ credits include Blade Runner 2049, The Martian and Jason Reitman‘s Tully. She also starred in one of the most beloved Black Mirror episodes, San Junipero. I’ve been a longtime fan of the actress, and I’m looking forward to her upcoming turn alongside Finn Wolfhard in Amblin’s genre movie The Turning. Davis is represented by UTA.
