Following its official reveal at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, Marvel Studios has now unveiled a piece of concept art for next year’s Black Widow movie, which sees Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha squaring off against the film’s villain Taskmaster!
It had been speculated that Taskmaster would serve as the movie’s main antagonist, after set photos last month revealed a masked character driving an armored vehicle.
If you’re unfamiliar with Taskmaster from the Marvel comic books, he is the alter-ego of Tony Masters, who possesses the ability to mimic people’s physical movements (a.k.a. photographic reflexes), which he has used to master a host of different fighting styles and weaponry. He also works as a combat instructor, training thugs to serve as henchmen for supervillains.
Black Widow is being directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) and sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff alongside Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) as Yelena Belova, O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Mason, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina Vostokoff/Iron Maiden, and Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
Black Widow is set for release on May 1st 2020.
